Votin' Republican? You Betcha!

There's been some talk among ed bloggers that teachers should vote Obama out and show Dems that we still wield a lot of power. There's certainly some wisdom in that. After all, could a Republican be worse than Obama? The idea started appealing to me more and more in recent weeks.

I've never voted Republican before and I wasn't sure I could pull the lever. So I tried out being a Republican for a few days. I kicked a street beggar. I traded in my Prius for a Hummer. I even bought some Haggar slacks with an elastic waistband. All in all, it didn't feel that bad. And then....

Newt Gingrich came out and said he supports going to war with Iran and North Korea. I guess the two wars we are losing right now just aren't enough for him. Then Newt said he believes that Sarah Palin will run in 2012. *shudder*

For what that might look like, I refer you to this video. In it, Andy Borowitz imagines a Palin presidency. I hereby bestow upon him the joke of the year award for claiming that if Palin became president, she'd "cancel the agreement between nouns and verbs". Give it a look.

I am afraid that some on the hopey changey left are engaging in wishful thinking. Mitt Romney, and not Sarah Palin, is poised to become the Republican nominee in 2012. The loopy left had the same wishful fantasy about Pat Buchanan in 2000 and did not notice that Texas Governor who went on to win two in a row.
There is somewhat of a weird fascination with Palin that bedevils those on the Left - MSNBC and The New York Times spend much more time on her and her family than Fox News.
I suppose the National Review had it right when it coined the term "Palin Derangement Syndrome" to describe in very funny terms the effect of Palin or her picture or her name or a picture or name of a Palin family member on those on the Left. And noted the further Left, the more severe the accompanying derangement.

I have only voted for Dems my entire life. I spent money and time in '06 to help Dems take back Congress. I did the same in '08. I was happy when they expanded their power in '08 and while I was skeptical of Obama's education agenda and a few other things regarding him, I was happy to see Bush/Cheney gone.

After RttT (teacher pay and evals tied to test scores, new standardized tests ultimately added to every subject at every grade level twice a year to measure if teachers "added value" to their students, schools closed, teachers fired, and charters opened), after the AIG bailout, TALF, the Ben Bernanke renomination, the health care reform law that forces 32 million Americans to buy shitty private insurance and pays for the gov't expense of the program with a 40% excise tax on people with employer-provided health care, after the GM/Ford bailout that cut UAW worker pay by 50%, after the reversal on offshore drilling and Obama's insistence that drilling is safe just two weeks before the BP rig exploded, after the revelation by WikiLeaks that the Obama administration is relying on assassination squads to take out Talibam leaders in Afghanistan but often gets the wrong (i.e., innocent people), after the administration has expanded the Bush/Cheney spying apparatus by using the WoT as an excuse, I don't see too much of a difference between corporate Dems and corporate Repubs.

And let's not forget that Obama plans the neo-liberalization of Social Security next, with his Catfood Commission set to raise the retirement age and decrease benefits. That's why he loaded the commission with corporate whores like himself.

This is not to say the wingnutty parts of the GOP are not scary - they are. Palin is an idiotic demagogue, Huckabee has decided to out-Palin Plain and Gingrich says things that make you want to open his brain and see what's inside (the latest is that we should attack North Korea.) They ALL scare me.

Nonetheless, to work hard and long to elect Dems and get the Obama agenda I detailed above, on top of the vilification and scapegoating this man has leveled at public school teachers, has me ready to NOT vote in 2010.

Can't vote for Repubs. Won't vote for any Dems who support the Obama education agenda. That leaves me with the Marxists, which is how I plan to vote.

Groucho for senate, Harpo for Congress, Gummo for governor...

That's where I am at with this. I don't want Repubs back, but I don't want Dems like Obama either.

Doesn't leave much of a choice, does it?

Gingrich, Palin, and Huckabee are the wing nuts of the right...hence the main stream media's obsession with them as a way to smear all Republicans.
What scares me most of all is that, supposedly and purportedly, Obama is a Democratic centrist. Add to that Pelosi and the crooks (Maxine Waters, Congressman 90K in Freezer Jefferson, Charlie Rangel, et al)and freaks (Edwards) and I would say the Democrats have blown their brand for 2010 and 2012.
O'Bama has been far worse than any Republican or any other Democrat I can think of when it comes to teachers.
When does the media apologize for their slobbering love affair with Candidate O'Bama...although we have nobody to blame but ourselves I guess.
It is clear and I can't believe I am saying this as a borderline conservative but Hillary should have won.

While recognizing the possibility of cutting off our noses to spite our faces by staying home in 2012, it should also be noted that it will be much harder for a Republican administration to cut and/or privatize Social Security.

For that you need a Democrat, a duplicitous one like Obama.

I said it here in May, http://southbronxschool.blogspot.com/2010/05/i-will-not-vote-for-obama-in-2012.html

No way, no how will I vote for Obama in 2012. If Romney comes back to what he was in Mass. I will vote for him. Maybe that dude from Minnesota, but Republicans all seem to play to the lowest common denominator so if that happens, third party for me

I wonder whether Palinese restaurants will pop up, and what Palinese food will be like. Anyone wanna head to the takeout for a loose moose sandwich?

Understand this, Obama could have hired Professor Linda Darling Hammond, who ran the education committee during his election campaign. He chose Huberman the incompetent from Chicago. The fix was in from the start. The point is Obama sold out the ideal of quality universal public education when came to office. Sorry but you can't change that fact. Until he cleans house in the Department of Education of the non-educators, I will not have faith in the man. Obama Man up and clean your house!

About that "Palin Derangement Syndrome" referenced in my earlier comment....there's something about a conservative, attractive, accomplished, pro life, pro gun, pro family, pro religion, woman who speaks her mind that brings out frenzied hate, fear and confusion in the libs.
http://articles.sfgate.com/2008-09-18/opinion/17120134_1_palin-s-selection-hillary-clinton-voters-national-review
Why can't the libs ignore her...they can't, it is "Palin Derangement Syndrome"
