School's Open!

Not a shocker, but at least it came early enough that we don't have to wake up at 5AM tomorrow to find out. The 2006 blizzard that dropped 27 inches of snow in 2006 didn't shut the schools or cause a delay, so why should this?

Everyone can look forward to a day of coverages, mass absences, and almost no actual learning. Don't forget to leave home an hour early!

The chancellor did close the schools for the school year 2008-09, but this was announced at around 6:30 in the morning when teachers were already on the road and parents had to scurry to find sitters for their children. Was there a reason behind the chancellor's delayed announcement?

The reason for the delayed announcement was that the chancellor wasn't sure if people would misinterpret closing schools because of the weather report and not because of progress reports.

The chancellor took extreme political steps that day in order for the public to understand why the schools were closed.

I imagine travel conditions will be okay by tomorrow morning, yes? I'm sure at my school we'll have close to 100% attendance. Inclement weather has never kept our kids away, and yes, most of them get bused or use public transit.

I had a lot of difficulty getting my car out, and I'm not looking forward to getting it back into a spot near my school, but I think the trip will be uneventful. I changed schools a few years ago, so I really don't know what my current school experiences on snow days. I know in my old school, about 40% of the teachers would call in sick and I'd be stuck supervising 4 or 5 classes in the auditorium. I hope that doesn't happen tomorrow.

Yeah, I have to admit I'm worried about parking too. Parking at my school sucks on normal days.

I didn't even try to dig my car out this morning. Two teenage boys were wandering around my street with shovels. $10 and my car was out in 15 minutes. It was worth every penny. Nice kids too.

The only circumstance where merit pay really makes sense.

Well, I'm sorry to my DoS friends, but parking around my school was impossible today. I ended up 4 blocks away. *sigh*

Another great thing is the delayed opening, that was utilized exactly one day during the transit strike.
